Kids Day At The Park

Every year the Friends of Smithgall Woods help to coordinate and also participate in the activities held at the outdoor event which takes place in the open areas next to the Smithgall-Dukes Creek Visitor Center.

The event features reptiles, raptors and games. This wholesome, outdoor experience creates some hands-on excitement for children of all ages.

Parking fee per vehicle.

Youth Fishing at Buck Shoals

Third Sunday of June, July, August and September: June 18, July 16, August 20, September 17 – 8:30 am to 4:00 pmChildren and their special “big person” are invited to fish in a secluded wooded lake which is stocked with catfish, bass and bream. All fish that are caught can be kept.This is a yearly event which, besides giving everyone an opportunity to spend some quality time outdoors, offers a fun experience for both children and adults alike.When you come, please remember to bring your own bait and rods, and a container of your choosing to store all those fish you’ll want to take home with you. Some rods are available for loan.

Georgia Master Naturalist

Mondays, June 6 through August 1

In cooperation with the University of Georgia Extension Service, a nine week training event is held each year at Smithgall Woods – Dukes Creek Conservation Area.

The class offers training in conservation and wildlife issues which are relevant to our southern Blue Ridge ecoregion. Participants have the opportunity to attend classes both indoors and out, and, hear from experts on many topics of interest.

Smithgall Women for the Woods

Saturday, September 10th and Sunday, September 11th

This year’s event plans to be a lot of fun “for women only”. Come and get your fill of shooting a bow and arrow, fishing and even doing such things as learning basic camp cooking techniques.

$50.00 event fee $5.00 camping fee

This year’s Fall Celebration will be held at our sister site-The Hardman Farm historic site located at the corner of highway 17 and highway 75 near Helen, GA.

Every year, Smithgall Friends and volunteers gather for an afternoon of good food and fun activities at or near Smithgall Woods park. Date to be determined.

Holiday Dinner

Combining work and pleasure, Smithgall Friends and volunteers are all invited to an evening of great food and laughs at our December, Friends Friday meeting where board members share topics of common interest and present individual awards for special merit and effort. Date to be determined.
